My thoughts: I know I am really late in the Jessica Jones game, but after getting hooked on Downton Abbey, I finally watched.
Jessica Jones is a woman with super human strength. She can lift cars, stop cars with her hands and she can sort of fly. She is the owner of Alias Investigations, and does PI work. A family comes to her asking for help in finding their daughter, who has disappeared without a trace. It turns out she is under the control of Kilgrave.
Kilgrave (brilliantly portrayed by David Tennant) has the ability to command people to do whatever he wants. He had Jessica under his spell for almost a year before she was finally able to break free from him. She has made it her mission to stop Kilgrave from hurting anyone else.
Kilgrave is a true sociopath. He doesn’t think about anyone else but himself and his wants. Jessica tries to be a good person and help who she can. She never smiles and she always looks like a hot mess in jeans that are ripped and an old leather jacket. She meets a man named Luke Cage, who is “special” like her – he is also freakishly strong and has unbreakable skin.
This show is really, really dark. There is a lot of blood and gore through the first season. Pretty graphic too. I would say it’s darker than Daredevil (and not nearly as good as Daredevil) and the characters are not as likable. I couldn’t really relate to the moody Jessica or her “sister” Trish. As I said, Kilgrave is a sociopath, but he is charming and somewhat likable. Carrie-Ann Moss plays an attorney who gives Jessica PI work, and she is a horribly despicable character, who will stop at nothing to get her way.
To be honest, I will likely watch the new show on Netflix about Luke Cage before I would watch season 2 of Jessica Jones. But if broody, angry chicks and a lot of violence are your forte, then Jessica Jones is the show for you.
