Until June by Aurora Rose Reynolds.  Just started reading it this morning on the train.  These books are really fast reads, but the way ARR writes alpha males makes me happy.

What I recently finished

I finished Sacrifice by Adriana Locke last night.  This was a very emotional book.  I can’t give a lot away without spoiling, but this is a really good book.

what I plan to read next

I think I’m going to read Bossman by Vi Keeland.  The guy on the cover is incredibly hot and the book sounds really funny.

Book Review – Sacrifice by Adriana Locke

Goodreads Summary

My life changed forever the night my husband died.
I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t sacrificewant to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him.
But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope.

My life changed forever the night my brother died.  I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that.

When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I’m willing to sacrifice it all.

Review

This review is going to be very short, because there isn’t a lot I can tell you about this book that won’t spoil it.

This is a very emotional book.  This is the story of Julia, who lost her husband in an accident and is raising her daughter on her own.  It’s also the story of Crew, her brother-in-law and her first love.  I liked Crew a lot.  He was a normal guy – worked on the docks making ok pay and Julia was struggling just to pay her bills.  It’s nice sometimes to read about real people – not everybody is wealthy – most of us are hardworking folk living paycheck to paycheck.  And Julia’s daughter Everleigh was about the cutest kid ever.

It’s the story of second chances and growing up.  There are some very serious subjects in this book; and parts of it were hard to read (because of the subject matter).  But overall, it was a good story.

My one complaint would be that the book was about 100 pages too long.  The last 10% dragged out way longer than it needed to and the epilogue – well, just read it and you’ll understand.  This was a really good story about love, family and triumph.

Happy reading.

Well….I finished a book last night and read two pages in a new book, but I’m going to read the whole thing, and that’s Easy Kisses by Kristen Proby, which is book 4 in the Boudreaux series.

What I recently finished

Last night, I finished Sway by Adriana Locke.  I really enjoyed this story, and it’s a family series (which are my favorite).   Before that, I read Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey, which pretty much sucked.

I’m either going to read Mister O by Lauren Blakely or Man Candy by Melanie Harlow.  May have to flip a coin:)

Book Review – Sway by Adriana Locke

Goodreads Summary

BARRETT LANDRY has it all.
Power, prestige, and plenty of women, the dapper politician’s life is pretty phenomenal. But in the midst of the biggest campaign of his life, he needs to focus. The last thing he swaycan afford is a distraction.

ALISON BAKER is a work-in-progress.
As a single mother to HUXLEY, she’s rebuilding life on her terms. She’s focused on family, faith, and a future for her son that can’t be taken away. Putting her child first means not being careless, no matter what.

A chance encounter forces Barrett and Alison to redefine what they really want out of life. But everything comes at a cost … and sometimes, even for love, it’s a price too steep to pay.

Review

I ran across this book, and decided to give it a try.  I’m really glad I did.

Sway is the story of Alison Baker, a single mom working two jobs and going to school to do what’s best for her child.  While working an event, she literally runs into to the Mayor of Savannah, Barrett Landry.  Barrett is immediately taken with Ali, but Ali is reserved.  Ali had been married and had a terrible divorce, which makes her very leery to start another relationship.

Barrett is determined to see Ali more, and goes out of his way to do so.  He was such a romantic guy, and I loved him immediately.  I liked Ali – I have tons of respect for single moms, but her reservations were slightly annoying, because she’s comparing Barrett to her ex-husband without meaning to do so.

There are some great side characters – namely Ali’s friend Lola and Barrett’s brother Lincoln (who the next book is about).  I also really liked Ali’s son, Huxley.  He was a really cool kid who was mature for his age.

There was some unnecessary drama due to Barrett being a politician (scandals), which didn’t seem forced but were a bit annoying nonetheless.  Overall, this was a good read, and I’m looking forward to reading about the rest of the Landry clan.

Happy reading.
